Cryosurgery in Monroe, LA and Southlake, TX
Some skin growths can be treated by freezing the affected skin. Known as “cryosurgery,” this technique has many advantages over other treatment options. Dr. Janine Hopkins, M.D., F.A.A.D., board-certified dermatologist, offers cryosurgery for men and women in Monroe, Alexandria, Shreveport, the Ark-La-Miss, Southlake, TX and the surrounding areas of Northeast Louisiana.
What is Cryosurgery?
Cryosurgery involves freezing damaged or cancerous tissues through a process of freezing the abnormality. Dr. Hopkins uses liquid nitrogen for the procedure. Because liquid nitrogen is between -346°F and -350°F, the cells are destroyed upon contact with the liquid.
How Much Does Cryosurgery Cost in Monroe, LA?
We understand that cost is a consideration for your medical dermatology treatments, and we wish to provide the most accurate information as possible. Cryosurgery is tailored to the patient, so the cost does vary. We can provide the most accurate pricing at the time of your appointment with Dr. Hopkins.
What Are the Benefits of Cryosurgery?
Cryosurgery is often the last option for safely and effectively removing skin cancer and abnormal growths. Compared to other methods, cryosurgery is less invasive, and patients heal from the procedure more quickly.
How Do I Know If I Need Cryosurgery?
If you have a skin growth or cancer, Dr. Hopkins will begin treatment with the most conservative treatment possible. When other options fail to produce the desired result, cryosurgery is used to treat the area.
What Should I Expect from Cryosurgery?
Due to the cell-damaging properties of liquid nitrogen, Dr. Hopkins takes great care to ensure that only the targeted tissue is affected by the nitrogen. She may use a spray or swab to apply the nitrogen to the growth. The growth may fall away from the healthy skin immediately or may take some time to dislodge from the skin. If the procedure leaves an opening in the skin, Dr. Hopkins closes it with sutures and places a bandage over the area.
You will need to keep the skin dry and clean until the wound is completely healed.
